Homer used the trumpeting figure of a young woman in several works in the early 1870s. Here we see the rear view of a young blond woman, wearing a transparently thin dress that is blowing in the breeze. We see a glimpse of her petticoat and ankle boots. She is blowing on a dinner horn, looking outwards towards the sea. She is positioned near a farm barn with potted plants and an overturned milk can.
