William Rush Carving His Allegorical Figure of the Schuylkill River by Thomas Eakins - Handmade Oil Painting on Canvas - American Painting

from $345.00

Driven by a desire to restore the name of the Philadelphia sculptor, William Rush, to the history of American Art, Thomas Eakins did several paintings imaging or re-imagining the sculpture, “The Water Nymph and Bittern,” installed in 1809 at the Centre Square in Philadelphia. In this particular painting, Eakins depicts Rush working on his masterpiece. But the emphasis is on the nude model, with the other figures blurred in the background. This highlight on the nude figure represents the traditional methods of art instruction, considering that Eakins was a founder of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

This is an image of the famous artwork. We will hand paint a beautiful reproduction of this masterpiece in the size below.
