The La Grenouillère was a popular resort for middle-class with a floating cafe, a spa, a boating establishment and a small island. In 1869, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir worked side by side and painted the same subject. Both their paintings feature the island, the people, some boats, the water, and the floating cafe. Monet's "Bain à la Grenouillère" focused more on repetitive elements: the boats, the ripples on the water, and the human figures.
