Peder Severin Kroyer was perhaps the most successful artist in the Skagen Painters group. In "Roses," Kroyer perfectly captures the brightness and loveliness of summertime. He was able to do this by using bright and light tones, soft brushstrokes, and artistic angling. The painting features the artist's wife seated in a deckchair under the rose bush. Her dog is resting beside her. At the foreground of the painting is a white rose plant in full bloom.
