Done in the tradition of Italian Baroque, and painted sometime in 1623, this painting depicts the ancient Greek myth of Danae. Here, Zeus visits Danae in a shower of gold. The contrast between the hues of white, nude and gold against the black backdrop adds more depth and dramatic effect to the painting.
