Franchois Boucher depicts the goddess Diana in her most human form; that is, in nude. In this painting, Diana is seen resting after her bath. She is fully naked, resting on the side of a trail, assisted by a nymph, who is also naked. Unlike other depictions of the mythological goddess, Boucher’s version is too revolutionary, frivolous even. Nevertheless, Diana’s attributes as goddess are also presented: the golden crescent, a bow, and a recently felled game. A lovely tribute to the female nude.
