Bohumil Kubista was one of the founders of Czech modern painting. He studied philosophy and optics, colour and geometric construction, which he employed in his works. He was largely influenced by Expressionism and Cubism. One of his Cubist works is "Fakir Taming Snakes." While the construction is Cubist, the colour palette shows the artist's Expressionist side.
