Cimon and Pero (Roman Charity) by Peter Paul Rubens - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting on Canvas

from $278.00

Roman Charity is a story of a woman who breastfed her father while he latter is incarcerated. This version of the story was the more popular one, which inspired many artists during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. However, according to the accounts of ancient Roman historians, the story was that of a jailed woman who was nursed by her daughter. Those depicted in the paintings rather have sexual and incestuous undertones. In this version by Peter Paul Rubens, the jailed father, Cimon, is being breastfed by his daughter, Pero. This image is reminiscent of Juno nursing an adult Hercules.

This is an image of the famous artwork. We will hand paint a beautiful reproduction of this masterpiece in the size below.
