This artwork was painted by Sandro Bottecilli, an Italian painter of the Florentine School during the early renaissance and was completed in 1480. It describes the eigth circle of Hell which Virgil and Dante visited. The painter describes the relationship betwwen the cirle's structure and its name. There was a wall running along the outside with a great pit at its center. In the pit, there were 2 pouches, the first pouch is consist of a group of souls who has been a panders and seducers scorge by demons with great whips. In the second pouch are those who are flatters. Dante even saw known and closed friends who sold his sister, abandoned a friend and even flatters people with unright motives. After enough of the horrible sight, they moved on to the next level of hell.
