This was one of the many portraits made by the Italian old master Raphael during his entire career. Many scholars believe that the subject in the portrait is Raphael himself, depicted as a young, eloquent and well-dressed young man. The subject has the attributes of a noble person, as suggested by his erect poise, elegant gesture, decorous ornament and soft tones. Aside from his pose, he seems so classy in his outfit, particularly because of the sable fur he wears and his wavy dark hair. Unfortunately, this painting has been reported missing since the Second World War.
