Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was among the popular painters during the Post-Impressionist movement, along with Gauguin, Van Gogh and Cezanne. His favorite subject was the Parisians. He loved to paint people at parties and other affairs of Paris during those times. This 1890 painting, Seated Dancer in Pink Tights, features a dancer sitting on the floor, as if contemplating something. She looks lonely, a feeling that is contrary to traditional depictions of dancers.
