In this letter to Gauguin, Van Gogh described the painting as a simple reproduction of his bedroom. The idea occurred to him after having been bedridden for days due to an illness. There are three versions of the "Bedroom in Arles." This one is the first and the most popular version. It depicts a view of the artist's bedroom in what is known as the "Yellow House," a place which he stayed in during his stay in Arles. It features yellow and ochre-toned bed and chairs and light blue walls with framed pictures hanged on one side.
