Unexpected Intrusion By William Merritt Chase - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas

The "Unexpected Intrusion," also known as The Turkish Page, is an 1876 oil painting by American painter William Merritt Chase. An exponent of American Impressionism, Chase ventured a bit into Orientalism in this particular work. It features a boy sitting on a rug with a bowl of grapes on his lap and some more fruits scattered on his left. The intruder, as suggested by the title, is a beautiful bird with a chain on its feet. But it could also be otherwise; that the boy, representing humans, is the intruder of nature, by holding captive such a beautiful, seemingly harmless bird.
