Famous Art Pt. 4

La Parisienne Japonaise By Alfred Stevens - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas

During the late 19th century, there was a surge of Japanese influence in Europe, particularly in visual art. A new movement was born, the French Japonism, which influenced even established painters at the time including Alfred Stevens. In this painting, "La Parisienne Japonaise," the Japanese art, culture and aesthetics are apparent. It is a picture of a Parisian woman beautifully dressed in a blue kimono. Her hair is made up like that of Japanese women and she's holding a traditional Japanese fan. She's looking at the mirror with her frontal reflection on it. It's a reflection of two different cultures merged into one.
