Famous Art Pt. 4

Promenade By August Macke - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas

August Macke was one of the foremost German painters of his time. He was known for his brand of Expressionism and for leading the Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group of artists. He was highly innovative. He integrated the avant-garde philosophy to his Expressionist roots. The result is a lively, colourful and fluid kind of Expressionism. "The Promenade" is a perfect example of this. It depicts some figures on a promenade: a woman with an umbrella talking to a man with a hat leaning on a tree, a woman contemplating beside a low wall, and two men talking in the background. Because of the composition, the curvy shapes, and the lively colours, the picture seems to move.
