Famous Art Pt. 4

Staffa, Fingal's Cave By JMW Turner - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas

from 228.00

J.M.W. Turner frequently travelled and was fascinated by marine scenes and the Scottish landscape. He admired the works of Sir Walter Scott who described Staffa as one of the most extraordinary places, celebrated for its purplish-grey basaltic formations and cavernous spaces, giving it an enigmatic character. This painting commemorates the artist’s travel to the remote island of Straffa where he was coughed in a wild storm. In the painting, he perfectly captures the compelling and extraordinary encounter between man and the forces of nature, by painting a steamship battling a storm and the sum momentarily bursts through the angry-looking rain cloud.
