The Dance Class By Edgar Degas- Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting On Canvas
Edgar Degas made countless paintings on the theme of dance and ballet. "The Dance Class" is perhaps the most ambitious of the works on the subject. It was commissioned by the singer Jean-Baptiste Faure which is paid tribute to in the painting by including in it the poster of Rossini's Guillaume Tell. The imaginary dance sequence is set in a rehearsal room in the Old Paris Opera. There are around 24 women in the painting. One is practising while the others, ballerinas and their mothers, are waiting and preparing. A conductor is also present in the picture. In the painting, Degas perfectly captures the gracefulness and light mood of ballet and the dancers.
