This is an oil on canvas self-portrait of Edgar Degas, one of the founders of the Impressionist movement. It was completed in the year 1856 and it depicts himself in a green jacket. Edgar was born from a wealthy family, and started painting in the year 1865. However, when he began the exhibition of his paintings, he received little attention thus leading to a change of her paintings from history to contemporary subjects. Later on, he denied of founding impressionism and began on criticizing his co-painters in painting outdoors. Then he rejected his Jewish friends for his anti-semitism and chose to stay at home. Then he became blind and died wandering in the street of Paris in 1917.
