This terrible painting was done by Francisco Goya, a Spanish romantic painter and was regarded as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the modern. This painting belongs to the genre of mythology and was completed in 1823. It depicts the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus (Romanised to Saturn), who ate each one of his sons upon their birth for fear that he might be overthrown by one of them. This is one of the 14 Black paintings which he painted on the walls of his house and was transferred to canvas after Goya's death.
