Jamini Roy was an eminent Bengali artist who often used village folk, particularly Santhal women as his subjects. In this painting we see a mother tenderly guiding her child with her hand placed gently on his head. The artist uses sweeping angular and rounded lines and a muted colour palette. Both mother and son wear traditional Indian dress.
