“They Did Not Expect Him” is another masterpiece by one of the greatest Russian painters of all time, Ilya Repin. This painting features the dramatic homecoming of an unexpected visitor. Painted in 1883, this work was the final in the series of paintings by Repin depicting the Russian Revolution. Portraying a happy but unexpected return of someone at the end of the revolution, this work is set in the house of the artist himself and features his family members as models. This painting now hangs in the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia.
