Memory of the Garden at Etten (Ladies of Arles) by Vincent van Gogh - Famous Art - Handmade Oil Painting on Canvas

from 270.00

When Van Gogh painted the "Memory of Garden at Etten (Ladies of Arles)" in 1888, he intended it to be a decoration to his bedroom at the Yellow House, his apartment in Arles. The colourful and lively garden is based on a parsonage garden at Etten where Vincent spent periods of time with his father and younger brother in 1881. This painting was Van Gogh's recollection of his first year as an artist: 1881 was the year he decided to become an artist. The result is a vibrant picture of ladies and landscape, as colourful as the blooming garden flowers.
